Quawntay Adams is an African-American federal prisoner who was arrested in 2004, at an Illinois truck stop, for allegedly attempting to pick up a vehicle loaded with marijuana. He was given an outrageous sentence of 35 YEARS, and, so far, has served 16 years!
Adams’ codefendant, however–a White woman who admitted to conspiracy to possess and distribute marijuana and money laundering charges–she received PROBATION!
Adams, the author of the memoir “Chasin’ Freedum(sic),” was featured in an interview in the same edition of the San Fransisco Bay View newpaper (Dec. 2019) that featured the story “Filming Injustice in Ohio’s Prisons: Jason Goudlock’s Story,” about Ohio’s old-law sentencing disparity [See “Jim Cannabis Crow: An Interview Wit’ a Prisoner From The War on (Drugs) “The Black Community,” by M.O.I. Please reach out to Adams and help this over-incarcerated man attain his physical freedom. Illinois recently enacted legislation that legalized the recreational use and selling of cannabis (Illinois HB 1438), and it’s a disgrace that Adams is still in prison.
